Today Hubert Hoffman announced that he is seeking the position of La Crosse County Board Supervisor for District 19. When asked why Hoffman decided to run again for County Board he stated that the people of District 19 deserve unbiased representation.
For the first time in modern history, the La Crosse County Board has decided to let the voters choose who will fill a vacant seat.
In May of 2014, Hubert Hoffman requested a special election to fill a vacancy on the La Crosse County Board. At that time, 65% of the La Crosse County Board said "NO" but, Hoffman's actions in 2014 had lasting results. Today, over the objection of County Board Chair Tara Johnson and her staunch supporters, the County Board ordered a special election to fill the vacant County Treasure position. When asked about the board's decision Hoffman stated, "I'm glad to see that my actions in 2014 have changed the way the Treasure vacancy will be filled and I hope the board will continue to favor elections over dictatorial appointments to fill vacancies." In a January 14 news article, WKBT News Channel 8 falsely reported.
"State law allows the county to enact a Premier Resort Area tax to help cover the county's nearly 90 million dollars of incomplete repairs to its transportation infrastructure." The image below is a screen shot of the WKBT article. The truth is, state law does not allow the county to enact a new sales (PRAT) tax. In a Facebook message, WKBT acknowledged that only municipalities with over 40% of their equalized value being tourism related can enact the tax. La Crosse County doesn't come anywhere near the 40% threshold. Multiple other news sources have reported this would require a change in state law. Given that WKBT has acknowledged La Crosse County cannot enact the tax, why would the story still say the county can? Earlier this year, WKBT acknowledged falsely reporting that Onalaska had a referendum pertaining to the Onalaska city administrator. Is this what we should expect from a "station of the year?" Please contact WKBT and demand they stop reporting #fakeNews. In January of 2014, Andrew Londre (Past Chair of the La Crosse County Democratic Party) completed the filing to run for election for La Crosse County Board District 9. In February of 2014, Mr. Londre placed an offer on a house outside of the district. It was clear in February of 2014 that Londre intended to move and would be unable to serve on County Board but, Londre kept silent. In March of 2014, Londre closed on the house, leaving no doubt that he could not serve on County Board but, Londre kept silent.
In an April 25, 2014 report the La Crosse Tribune reported that Londre properly lived in the district when nomination papers were due Jan. 7. He says he and his fiancee didn't begin looking for a new home until after that, and held out hope through most of the process they would remain in District 9. I will repeat, "held out hope through most of the process." By Londre's statement we are to believe that he didn't start looking for a home until after January 7, 2014 and that even after he had made the offer in February knowing the home was not in the district they "held out hope" that they would remain in District 9? After closing on the house in March, leaving no doubt that Londre couldn't serve, he still "held out hope" they would remain in District 9? The Spring 2014 election cycle was twelve weeks long and for at least 1/2 that time Londre knew he wanted out of the district. Add in the time it takes to find a realtor, arrange a showing, and prepare an offer, and it is clear that Londre knew, through most of the process, that he would not be able to serve directly contradicting the statement given to the Tribune at that time. At the May 5, 2014 County Board Meeting, Democrat Tara Johnson acknowledge concerns regarding Londre and stated, "whether or not you think it passes the sniff test, no laws were broken," before appointing Democrat Nancy Stoll Caucutt to the County Board rather than allowing the citizens in District 9 to actually have a vote. Caucutt was rejected by the citizens of District 9 and voted out of office at the next election. Fast forward to December 17, 2016 and there is another article in the La Crosse Tribune questioning the integrity and ethics of Democrat Andrew Londre. This time detailing how he redirected more than $10,000 of "civic improvement funds" to pay for a video promoting a handful of local businesses including his own. Altra Federal Credit Union put up $2,000 in matching funds towards the "civic improvement funds" and Cheryl Dutton, vice president of marketing said, "We wished we would have had the opportunity to work with him on redirecting the funds. We did the match and donation based on what the original purpose of the funding was for. … We would certainly have helped redirect the funds in the community to do good projects like the UWL students were proposing to do." Kelly Nowicki, who teaches business classes at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, was blind sided when she spoke to Londre in July about helping a UW-L student. "That's when Andrew said to me there is no money. He used it for 'Ambitious Adventures.'" Nowicki also stated she was "concerned" about Londre having used the funds for a different purpose but, was worried "about the ramifications of not supporting him. I didn't feel comfortable disagreeing with Andrew publicly." Just like 2014, Londre kept quiet and did not inform Nowicki, Dutton or the public until he had to. When we look at the totality of the circumstances, Londre not being forthcoming to the voters in 2014, Londre not informing Nowicki, Dutton or the public, and an Associate Lecturer uncomfortable with disagreeing with Londre, one cannot help but wonder about the trustworthiness of Democrat Andrew Londre and those that choose to associate with him. Although we continue to hear claims about lack of funding for our County Highways, the La Crosse County Public Works and Infrastructure committee unanimously approved spending $289,600 to purchase property for a new County Highway department shop.
If repair of our County Highways is truly a top priority, shouldn't we be spending those tax dollars on highway maintenance? Based on the committee's actions constructing more buildings has a higher priority that fixing our roads. There will be a dedication ceremony for the Korean War Veteran's Memorial at Veteran's Park just off Clinton Street (near the Clinton Street South boat landing) at 11 a.m. Wednesday July 27, 2016.

It has been known for many years that the La Crosse Tribune has an EXTREME bias towards conservative view points and favors the Democratic Party. However, I find it disturbing to say the least, that the La Crosse Tribune would not only approve but also allow a blog comment advocating for the lynching of Republican lawmakers to remain on the web site. I would encourage everyone, regardless of political affiliation, please contact the La Crosse Tribune and ask them why they would approve a comment condoning murder based solely on a political party affiliation.
I enjoyed my time on the La Crosse County Board and would like to thank those who voted to re-elect me in the April 5th election. Unfortunately, the outcome was not what you or I had hoped for.
I am proud of the accomplishments I was able to achieve:
Again, thank you for your support and all the best to Supervisor Elect Cornforth. Respectfully, Hubert Hoffman N5449 Sobkowiak Rd. Onalaska, WI 54650 608-792-0669 Feel like you are being used? What La Crosse County Board Candidates don't want you to know.4/4/2016
